We’re taking our project to the people.

Career Guidance, When You Need It

As various for-profit and non-profit organizations continue to research the world of work, one thing continues to shine true - women in the workplace lack support to unlock the opportunities they deserve. In a joint study conducted by Lean In and McKinsey & Company, Women in the Workplace 2023, it was found that the glass ceiling is not the greatest thing holding women back, but rather “the “broken rung” is the greatest obstacle women face on the path to senior leadership.”

Through our research at Women With Potential (WWP), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, it is evident that women are not only facing issues on their path to senior leadership but also on their path to any career advancement. Thus our mission became clear, to help support the economic advancement of women through career guidance.

We are excited to have developed a prototype for our first key program at WWP - a platform designed to provide real-time guidance for navigating the nuanced situations that incrementally hold women back at work. From overcoming poorly designed workplace policies to responding to micro-aggressions from co-workers and leaders, this platform will be a place to connect with real stories in real-time, from people who have successfully made it to the other side.

The Vetted Multi-Contributor Model

While our current prototypes do not fully encompass our future state, they do provide the framework for what our users can expect. Our path will lead us ultimately to a model where we address common issues with full transparency on the demographics of our contributors.

You will notice the contributor’s gender, race and ethnicity, sexuality, career level, and experience will be provided on every situation response we provide. We will also provide different approaches to the same situations because we all have our way that feels in alignment with how we wish to show up in the world.

Your Role in Our Work

We are looking for volunteers to review two situations we have addressed with our prototype of how to respond and provide guidance. Each situation has several sub-sections including questions for consideration and reflection, actionable advice and tips, a success story that incorporates some of the tips provided, and additional resources for deeper exploration.

After reviewing the situation, we also ask that our volunteers complete a Situation Feedback Survey to let us know how we can enhance and build upon this model.

Two Easy Steps to Participate

  1. Visit the two situation pages below to review each situation presented and the corresponding sections listed. You can review just one situation or both.

  2. Complete the Situation Feedback Survey for each of the situations provided (you can use the same form to submit both responses).
